Having an emergency first aid kit handy is a good way to get ready for medical emergencies. You should know the essential things to include in your first aid kit. You can create your own kit or buy already-made one.
Essential First Aid Items
Start by equipping your kit with essentials that are usually found in a first aid box. These items include hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, sterile gloves, cotton balls, antibiotic hand cleansers, scissors, cotton swabs, tweezers, ointments, hydrocortisone creams, painkillers and different types of adhesive bandages.
Essential But Non-Necessary Items
Also, in creating your emergency first aid kit, you should include items that are important but may not be necessary. This should be after you’ve placed the essential and necessary items, and still have some space left. Example of such items include pain relievers, a thermometer, elastic bandages, ammonia ampoules, eye drops, sinus medications, facial tissues, diarrhea medication, laxatives and antacids.
Convenient Items
Convenient items that you may include in your first aid kit for emergency purpose include lip balm, cough drops, safety pins, petroleum jelly and air sickness bag. Sanitary pads may also be part of the box, for the sake of teenage females and women. But if you don’t have enough space, you can pack those separately.
If you are putting your own emergency first aid kit together, buy a manual for the kit. You should also have a list of emergency phone numbers right inside the manual. Also, write down essential medical information for members of the family who have specific medical problems/concerns. Getting prepared for emergency can help alleviate worries and even stabilize life-threatening conditions in an emergency if you are unable to get professional help right away.
